We last met in January when Trump’s inauguration in the USA seemed like a significant challenge.
Now it looks like we’re living in a totally different world.
Yesterday, on the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the USA, together with China and Russia, adopted a resolution in which Russia is no longer even named as an aggressor.
The American president is forcing Ukraine to hand over rare minerals and resources, just as a mafia boss extorts the protection money from restaurant owners.
In Germany, a far-right party that is so far-right that not even French and other European right-wing parties want to cooperate with them, the AFD has become the second largest force in Germany. In East Germany it is even the strongest political force and in one federal state even won all direct mandates.
And while we mainly look at the foreign policy aspects of the Trump administration with popping wide eyes and amazement, many of our American friends are massively shocked by the domestic political distortions.
I don’t know how much time it takes to put all this in a logical system of understanding the world. But I admit that I still need some time.
